Fruition
14 years ago, I went to a block party in SE Portland, and was blown away by this brand new band called Fruition (and also by a then brand new Outpost). I fell hard from the get for Fruition… like, totally swept off my feet.
They’ve blossomed into Americana superstars and recently returned to home base, to kick off their “How to Make Mistakes” tour at the Wonder Ballroom. I was really looking forward to hearing their new material live, and covering this performance for KPSU. And I always love shows at the Wonder, so I knew this night was going to be great!
The room was full, fans were beaming with excitement and pulling up tight to the stage. The vibe was perfect. Fruition beamed with happiness when they were on stage, you can see the music light them right up! They feel like a family when you watch them perform, and they treat their audience as such, so the shows have a cool family reunion kinda vibe. Their enchanting harmonies filled the room, lit up our souls…the set list unfolded a nice balance of the songs on their new album and their long standing classics. The musical face-offs between Jay, Mimi, and Kellen were the sweet spots for me. And they played two of my favorites right at the end of the evening, I was so glad! (Labor of Love and Mountain Annie) I took some video clips and pictures (that are attached here to this article) so that you guys can witness the kind of authenticity they bring to their performances. Their musical craftsmanship is truly breathtaking. It’s no wonder they’ve developed such a cult following.
This tour is going to be amazing for Fruition, and I couldn’t be happier for them. Their new album is straight up fire, and so was this performance. If Fruition comes to your town, you just need to go see them. My face literally hurt at the end of the night, from smiling so much. The whole evening was a joy.
Bless up Fruition! I’m so thankful for you guys!
Love, SuzyQ💕
