Folks, today we have a double feature! Riotgirl music has been around for years, and today we’re listening to the band that inadvertantly started the movement, as well as a taste from the future- a divergent genre dubbed tenderpunk. We’ll start off with X-Ray Spex, the 1976 catalyst, and move on to some 2016 Illuminati Hotties.

For X-Ray Spex, we’ll be taking a look at their album Germfree Adolecents. If you like their sound, their song, “Oh Bondage, Up Yours!” (specifically the Live at the London Roundhouse Version from 2008) was the start of the riotgirl movement. The band was formed by main vocalist, Poly Styrene, who was inspired to form a band after attending a Sex Pistols show. They were very popular back in the day- X-Ray Spex played The Roxy twice in it’s first 100 days live.

Afterwards, we’ll jump to the near-present with illuminati hotties. This band was created by Sarah Tudzin, and began as a work portfolio project. Now with 200k listeners on Spotify, it’s safe to say it’s no longer a side project. They’re currently on tour with Cavetown!
