Tribal Guarachero originated in the early 2000’s in Mexico City, MX. The new wave electronic genre blends cumbia, EDM, and techno house. In 2011, Mexican electronic group, 3BallMTY (Tribal Monterrey), gained a mainstream audience with their song “Intentalo”. Monterrey, MX became the stomping grounds for underground tribal dance parties. Traditional botas tribaleras, are the go-to dancing footwear for the men in Monterrey. The elongated toe is made from spare tire parts, and the bright fabric sown on top is interchangeable to match an outfit. Men compete in dance-offs and will spend hours rehearsing their choreography and creating their matching group ensembles.
