Morning Ritual – The Clear Blue Pearl

What’s up everyone! This week on Mood Swings I’m spinning a record that is extremely close to my heart. The Clear Blue Pearl is a story album written and composed by my former music teacher Ben Darwish. To say that this album is a big influence on my musical taste is a drastic understatement. I’ve listened to this record more times than I can count and every time I put it on, I take something new away from it.
Each song is a different segment in a journey to find the last remaining water source on a drought stricken earth. It’s a simple concept, but the composition could not be any better. Each track is able to capture the emotions that would be felt on an epic journey to the prophesied “Clear Blue Pearl” an underwater oasis that will bring new life to the barren land.
The Shook Twins also kill it on the vocals and occasionally guitar as well. I fell in love with their harmonies as soon as the album starts. The intricate counterpoint between the piano and the three part vocal harmonies takes this album to another level that can be appreciated for the beauty of the songs and also the technicality of the musicians.
In all, this album brings back to a place in my life where I’m excited to explore just how much music can affect me emotionally. The energy that this album gives off is so unique that it has landed in my top 5 albums of all time. I haven’t heard another record that is quite able to capture the feeling that this one does.
