Float Tank Broadcast May 28th 2018; Godspeed You! Black Emperor showcase

One of my favorite bands, the instrumental legends of Godspeed You! Black Emperor will be in Portland May 31st and June 1st for a back to back show at the Wonder Ballroom. While not having a front(wo)man and/or singer, the band is still able to knock you on your ass with powerful imagery of the bleakest variety as well as the most triumphant. By sampling field recordings, trains, and recorded voices into lengthy swelling instrumental pieces, the band forms some of the most conceptual albums I have listened to in my life. Since the bands albums are difficult (sometimes impossible) to fragment into single plays, mixing numerous records into one broadcast required considerable conspiracy. I decided to fill this radio hour with the more heavy and bleak side of God’s Pee so it will surely sting just a little bit but its okay to feel this way, music doesn’t always need to make you happy and forgetful of life’s troubles (I’m sure you know this π ).
