This year Warped Tour in Portland will be at the Portland Expo Center. This is an all ages event. The event starts at 11am, and gates open at 10am. Tickets are $39 per person, and tickets are available here.

Warped Tour has always featured a large variety of artists, and with the tour growing each year it is impossible to see every band’s performance without going to multiple dates. There are three groups on the tour this year I am huge a fan of, and consider a must see on the 2016 Vans Warped Tour. One is no stranger to the tour and has been making incredible music for years, and the other two are just in the beginning of their very promising music careers.

Personal Picks

1. The Maine

the-maine

The Maine are a Warped Tour fan favorite, with this being their fifth year doing Warped Tour. The band has been hard at work touring and creating music: their last full length album, American Candy, was released in 2015, a Covers (Side B)  EP was released June of 2016, and lead vocalist John O’Callaghan released a solo EP (Sincerely, John the Ghost)  under the moniker John the Ghost. Listen to my recent interview with lead vocalist John O’Callaghan here; where we discuss his John the Ghost project and other questions pre-Warped Tour. I have seen and met the band once before Warped, on their headlining 2015 American Candy Tour. This band puts on quite a performance. Their shows are fun, high energy, and every member is giving it their all – ensuring you are having the greatest time of your life. The band always meets their fans after the show, and are the most grateful, genuine, and down to earth group of people I have ever met. Shortly after the American Candy Tour, the band went on a 100% free tour to give back to their fans. These guys are incredible and there’s a reason they have been asked to come on the tour so many times – you do not want to miss their set. Follow the band on twitter, facebook, and instagram – and check out their music on iTunes or Spotify.

2. Against the Current

This is the first year Against the Current is on Warped Tour, and I doubt it will be the last. ATC has been around for a while, I personally was a fan years back and remember watching their own youtube covers, and early collabs with youtuber Alex Goot. They released their debut EP Infinity in 2014, followed up with their Gravity EP in 2015, and just released their debut album In Our Bones this year (read my review here). In short, I was blown away and fell in love with the band even more after the release of their album. It’s an incredibly strong debut album, instantly became one of my favorites, and definitely will be in my list of Top 10 albums of 2016. This is a band that already has a large, strong, and devoted fanbase; and a band that is ready to blow up and become a prominent, and popular band of Warped, and in the industry. This band’s set should be at the top of your list, you will be stunned by ATC’s high soaring sounds and Chrissy Costanza’s vocals. Follow the band on twitter, facebook, and instagram – and check out their debut album by clicking on the download link below or on Spotify.

3. Sykes

Sykes is a band I had not heard of until Warped Tour was announced this year. I discovered the band when they took over Warped Tour’s social media, decided to give them a chance, and didn’t regret it. Anyone unfamiliar with the band should start with their newly released Younger Mind EP. I had those 5 songs on repeat for the first week the EP was out, and it is a staple of the music I listen to daily. This is a band that shows a lot of promise. I’m excited to see what the future holds for this band, and I look forward to hearing more music from Sykes. Follow them on facebook, twitter, and instagram – and check out their EP Younger Mind on iTunes or Spotify.
