In what would have been an unlikely pairing under normal circumstances, Zander Hawley joined the Naked and Famous on their U.S. Stripped tour. With the release of A Still Heart, a collection of stripped versions of some of The Naked and Famous’ biggest songs, the band unplugged their amps and set aside their synths to perform these songs at intimate venues across the nation. As Zander said near the end of his set, the performance The Naked and Famous put together was something special.
Portland’s The Old Church Concert Hall is the most intimate a venue in the city can get. Fans lined up early to pack their seats of the old renovated church. The original pews were kept for concert seating, and fans sat silently in awe at the artist’s performances and the magnificent acoustics of the room.
Zander took the stage solo with his guitar, at least initially until he closed his set with Luna Shadows replacing Phoebe Bridges for his song “Until We Both Get Bored.” Zander has a voice that instantly makes you fall in love with his work, and the natural reverb and acoustics of The Old Church blows away the audience even more. His lyrics and music are raw and emotional, full of messages of self-doubt, broken relationships, broken people, and the way Zander feels and deals with love. His lyrics are honest, resonate with anyone who takes the time to listen, and he was the perfect act The Naked and Famous could have chosen to come along on their unique tour.
