Review/Photos/In-Studio: Company of Thieves Returns to Portland

Company of Thieves is currently on tour in support of Walk the Moon on their “Press Restart Tour”, and ahead of their EP Better Together. They stopped by KPSU, Portland’s College Radio Station, to perform a live acoustic set followed by an interview with KPSU’s Joe Hernandez (@thisisbroseph).

Company of Thieves consists of Genevieve Schatz, Marc Walloc, and Chris Faller from Chicago, Illinois. Their last release was in 2011, and soon after went on an indefinite hiatus where the status of the band was in question. Fast forward, they are now on tour with Walk the Moon and releasing their next EP Better Together on February 23. Standing in line prior to doors, many Walk the Moon fans knew who was opening, but hadn’t heard Company of Thieves music and didn’t know what to expect. Immediately, as soon as Company of Thieves stepped on stage, they had the attention of and captivated the crowd. The fans, who had already packed the venue early, were incredibly welcoming and receptive. Their music was upbeat and energetic for their entire set, and coupled with the contagious stage presence and powerful voice of Genevieve – the audience was highly engaged and dancing, and the infamous floor at the Crystal Ballroom continued to bounce nonstop. Although they already had the crowd under their control, the audience erupted when Company of Thieves went into their cover of The Killers “When You Were Young” near the end of their set. It was an impressive display from start to finish that left many WTM fans craving more, and satisfied murmurs could be heard once the set had concluded. Many fans were gained from one of the Portland nights alone, and with the rest of the tour taken into consideration it’s obvious a family of fans is growing in front of Company of Thieves.
