It’s been awhile since an artist like Låpsley has graced our presence. The nineteen year-old Brit has been storming into our playlists and social media accounts, gracing us with her soaring voice and chicken nugget memes. Very few as young as Holly Låpsley Fletcher are blessed with the talent and humor she possess and we are lucky to have the chance to witness her shine in person. Låplsey returns to Portland on Monday, November 14th at the Wonder Ballroom after performing in New York, Toronto and Seattle. Her debut album Long Way Home was released on XL Recordings in March of this year and has been steadily gaining attention thanks to its clean production and stunning visuals. Her latest releases include a video for DJ Koze’s remix of her Long Way Home track “Operator (He Doesn’t Call Me)” featuring drag queens and dancing as well as a sweet reflection of her home in Southport and how it made her who she is today.
Her charming personality is hard to ignore as well as her cutting cackle that makes you smile whenever you hear it. It’s surprising to hear such an otherworldly voice coming from such a down-to-earth young woman and her simple and haunting tunes will follow you around for days. The show at the Wonder Ballroom features support from English duo Aquilo, who Låpsley considers close personal friends. Her live presence will ground you while her voice lifts you up, giving one of the most pure performances I’ve seen in ages. This show is not to be missed, even if it is just to see what she’s wearing (did I mention she has fantastic style?).
