I make music for your girlfriend.

That is the first line at the top of DVG’s website, and he often refers to himself as “your girlfriend’s next favorite artist” in some of his various vlogs and blog posts. Covered in Color is the follow up to Daren’s second EP, My Life Is Beautiful (2016). My Life is Beautiful was Daren’s first release as an independent artist, where music was his sole focus. Daren’s career in music began after leaving his job on SourceFed, a news and entertainment network on YouTube, and his music documents his journeys throughout his life and as he finds his voice in music. Nearly one year later, and after the release of his three EPs, DVG has made significant growth and development in his music, and has found his sound. Leading up to the release of Covered In Color, Daren published blog posts discussing the 6 tracks and his writing. On his first blog post he writes:

I’m standing tall with these 6 records as I am so proud of the progression. With each song that I wrote on this project I felt inches closer to catching my sound … Initially, the entire project was going to be very minimalistic. That didn’t exactly happen but I believe it’s for the best. I always try and encapsulate how I was feeling during those 8 months and I think these 18 minutes did just that. I can’t wait for you to hear that.

You can now listen to Covered In Color on Spotify/iTunes, and you can watch DVG’s dream come true at The Analog on May 11.
