Shane Koyczan, Northern Canadaian rooted spoken word artist and poet, joined Learning to Grow with DJ Mkulima (The Farmer) last night for a special interview with select music prior to Shane’s upcoming show March 6th at The Doug Fir Lounge for his new album ‘Debris.’

Shane Koyczan is an award winning poet whose early life experiences in Yellowknife NWT and Penticton BC have deeply and personally shaped the poetry which he creates. Much of the themes Shane speaks to center around topics such as bullying, eating disorders, loss of dear friends/family and love. His stories come from an obviously deep and personal space, delivered with brutal honesty, Shane carries a special ability to connect as a human with those who take the time to let his words in. There’s no doubt that many share experiences similar to those Shane so personally shares. Tune in to hear more about his formative years and some of the deeper stories behind some of his pieces.
