BERFDAYS!!! A time for celebrating anniversaries of existence – part 2

Written by on November 4, 2017

So the blog post is an on-running ramble that I am continuing, started it  … I dunno 3 posts ago I think. I think.

These two hours of Box of Chocolates were streamed this past Sunday. This post being hour 1 the 7-8 am time slot. Berfdays is a simple and straight forward show concept. We; the royal, you know the editorial- we celebrate musician anniversaries of existence from the week leading up to that particular morning. This episode of Box of Chocolates features birthdays from October 23 – 28. Show streamed live on October 29th.

Let’s see here … where was … oh yes, the seemingly enormous moral quandary that was vexing my (oh so young) twenty-one year old mind. In the exercise of creative gifts, talents, abilities, skills. Call them what you like, the fact remains that there are some folk who either enjoy the act itself (writing, creating with the intent to convey to others) more than others, or do have a much more preternatural set of faculties bent at the art of communication in its myriad of forms.

Can anyone do it? Well yes, of course they can, thing is most care not to do so. There are a few, who are tragically, stuck in the Salieri vortex of unquenchable desire to create, only to simply not be very good at it; despite robust efforts & ineffable crafted skill. For some ungraspable apparition of a reason, they simply not able to bring forth the “movement” in others’ souls and minds that they are seeking.

And I should take a slight pause here to clarify. This isn’t to say that if you cannot “be the best” at something that you shouldn’t do it. There really is no accounting for the element of taste for one thing, the perspective of any individual audience member is the most important lens that views/intakes any piece of media or communication creation. Yet is the only one you; as creator, cannot really not account for. Which is to say; regardless how “successful” you are in your creation – whether it be a large-scale collaboration such as film, or the solitary (ish) act of crafting poetry or a manuscript, the true success is really found simply in completion.

How things change or evolve after you’ve clapped your hands and exclaimed you’re done, and allowed your work to be consumed, is really utterly beyond your control. In essence, it is as Master Yoda once said, “Do or do not, there is no try” so many who want to create anything never start, much less finish. Granted there is a lot of fear and time scarcity in putting ones’ self out there in such a vulnerable manner. But that’s just it, if the only reason you would is to be the best, the most loved, most successful. Well, perhaps you are wanting to “DO” for the “wrong” reasons in the first place. And I am italicizing and enclosing in quotes the word wrong, because I’m not so sure there is AT ALL EVER, a wrong or bad reason to be creating. Even if it’s all about propaganda and twisting minds. Everything has something to learn from.
