Fresh off of their energetic two weekends at Coachella, The xx bring their new album I See You to Portland Sunday April 23. Their third album focuses on their relationship as a band after twenty years of friendship as well as the individual struggles they’ve overcome as they’ve transitioned into full adulthood. I See You is quite the departure from the sound of their first two records but still carries many of the same themes and production. The heavy influence of Jamie xx is even more apparent on this album, especially when compared to his 2015 debut In Colour. Jamie includes a variety of samples on the new record including Hall & Oates and The Alessi Brothers.

Their live show features a mix of tracks from their whole discography. Many of the tracks have been reworked for a show setting, including a danceable, Jamie xx-esque live remix of “Shelter”. They’ve also been performing a cover of Drake’s “Too Good” at a few shows on this tour so far as well as a track or two from In Colour. The visuals and set up are a literal reflection of their unique album art and carry the theme of turning the focus back onto the listener. Their live presence has grown exponentially since the last time they were in Portland, making this show required reading for any indie music fan.
