Viking Twang this week and next
Written by Randy Black on August 13, 2014
Hey Friends – Had a good Viking Twang on kpsu.org Tuesday, Aug. 12. We started off cooling you down from our torrid weather with Homer and Jethro, along with June Carter Cash, serenading us with “”Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” The Portland bands Golden Delicious and the Flat Mountain Girls, along with women old-time bands the Stairwell Sisters and Mattie, Martha, and Minnie, performed, and the Atomic Duo reminded us that when all else in life fails, we can still play our old guitar.
On Tuesday, Oct. 19, Jimmy Martin will start us off by taking us to the Grand Old Opry. I’ll play a set of hokum – songs from the 1920s by Charlie Poole, Gid Tanner and the Skillet Lickers, and Emmett Miller. We’ll close with a set of cowboy music, featuring the Hoosier Hot Shots, Marty Robbins, and even Ella Fitzgerald!
You can still listen to the August 5 and 12 shows by podcast, and check out the entire playlists. Viking Twang is live on kpsu.org every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon, and streaming any time you’d like to listen. Any comments, write to [email protected] Thanks for listening! – Randy Black
