The last time I talked to The Bilinda Butchers, they were finishing up a month-long tour with Craft Spells and playing a set at Boise’s Treefort Music Festival, where I jokingly asked them to sneak me up to the seventh floor of The Owyhee AKA the “exclusive” artist lounge, before our interview. Today, the San Francisco dream pop trio premiered “Sentimental Girl’s Violent Joke,” the new single from a forthcoming compilation album of Number Girl covers. This track is the first release following The Bilinda Butchers’ 2014 full length LP, HEAVEN (Orchid Tapes). In collaboration with Smany, a Tokyo artist, The Bilinda Butchers reworked “Sentimental Girl’s Violent Joke” with reverb-drenched vocals and hypnotizing house beats that come together perfectly to convey absolute spiritual liberation. Although the house rhythms deviate from The Bilinda Butchers’ typical sound, the dreamy atmosphere of the overall single will keep long-time fans hooked and new fans starving for more.

You can stream “Sentimental Girl’s Violent Joke” below and download it on BandCamp and iTunes via Zoom Lens, a Los Angeles label co-founded by Michal Palmer.
