If you're looking for a great rock show, southern culture on the skids (SCOTS to its diehards) is the place to be Thursday.
Formed in Chapel Hill, NC in 1983, they've been cranking out fun upbeat music for over 30 years and running the musical gamut from psychobilly and surf rock to Americana and just good old fashioned southern rock. Even though he's getting on in years, frontman Rick Miller "does work" on technically challenging songs reminiscent of Dick Dale while bassist Mary Huff and drummer Dave Hartman hold it down to create one of those rare creature 3 piece bands that truly fills a space sonically to make it their own.
This band is to southern culture what drag is to the female form… at times an earnest homage, very often tongue in cheek parody, but always a loving tribute to their roots. You'll be guaranteed to hear raucous songs about heartbreak, doublewides, sex, fast cars, and southern food staples. And even if you can't relate to those things from first hand experience, the infectious fun of their performance will have you smiling dancing…. and maybe eating some fried chicken onstage.
Johnny 7 and the Black Crabs is the opening band. Show at 8 PM. Join Scrappy and Rocket Queen Thursday night at 8 pm for a special SCOTS show on KPSU!
