TOKiMONSTA

FFO: Gavin Turek, MNDR, Flying Lotus, KRANE

TOKiMONSTA stopped by Portland’s Holocene on her Lune Rouge Experience Tour with her openers King Jet and Kingdom earlier this weekend. This was a 21+ sold out event brought to you by Abstract Earth Project.

King Jet, a rapper on an EDM fueled tour didn’t hesitate to make the beginning of the night his own scene. Same goes for DJ Kingdom who’s chill electronic music got everyone ready and set for a night full of beautiful melodic music and heavy bass.

When TOKiMONSTA hit the stage around 11:40 the crowd cheered endlessly. She began by dropping hit songs like “We Love” and “Little Pleasures” mixed with hip-hop classics and deep cuts that had Holocene’s full capacity bumping with delight. TOKiMONSTA appeared genuinely thrilled and lost in the moment while mixing her music. Throughout the night, she smiled and nodded along as she zipped along her table full of gear, sometimes pausing to raise the roof. As she drew upon her classical music background and love for hip hop to conjure futuristic, exquisitely layered soundscapes on the fly, her energy and excitement were outright infectious. TOKiMONSTA has gained a lot of attention and press for being a rare woman on the scene of producers, but her fresh, thrilling sound is decidedly what commands notice.
