stopped by Portland’s Roseland Theater on first annual 2 night Glitter Pop event last night on December 28 2017. This was an all age event with Zack Villere and Injury Reserve as the opening artists.
Early on in the show, Aminé established that he wanted the crowd to not just enjoy themselves, but love themselves as well. Encouraging the crowd to stay in the moment, Aminé asked everyone to respond “I know” any and every time he called the crowd beautiful. Opening with “Baba,” the rapper followed shortly thereafter with a “No Scrubs”/”Gold Digger” mash-up, a huge success with the crowd.
Throughout his tour, Aminé has added a patch per city on a special pair of jeans, dubbed his “tour pants.” During each concert, the rapper has drawn someone from the crowd onstage to write a phrase that encapsulates the city, as a way to remember and appreciate the experience. For Portland his hometown, the patch was on the butt of the pants, and the fan wrote “F gentrification” for Portland.
After performing the majority of his album Good For You, Aminé ended with his chart topper “Caroline” before coming back out for an energetic encore of “Spice Girl,” before finally wishing the crowd a goodnight.
Between the enthusiastic crowd, amazing performance from the band and Aminé himself, this was a glitter pop “festival” well worth the ticket price. Hopefully Aminé returns next year for round 2.
