Beat Connection stole my heart last year at the show they performed at Portland State’s on-campus venue Parkway North. This Saturday (11/5), they’re coming back to Portland at the Doug Fir lounge to bring a guaranteed good time. The show starts at 9 with openers Brothers From Another and Phone Call… tickets are still available. Their music- danceable, lighthearted, yet sincere electropop, is likable and catchy but backed up by serious talent. The group began as a duo (Reed Juenger and Jordan Koplowitz) who met at University of Washington in 2008. They released their first two singles, “In the Water” and “Silver Screen”, with Tom Eddy on vocals. The band as it is now consists of vocalist Tom Eddy, Reed Juenger with electronics, Mark Hunter on bass, and Jarred Katz with drums. They signed with Anti Records in 2015, releasing Product 3, their second full-length album.

Check out some of my personal favorites from Beat Connection – the bouncy synth of “Further Out”, the dreamy world of “Palace Garden 4 Am” and the hypnotic lyrics of “Think/Feel”.

After doing an East Coast tour earlier this year, the group is coming from Seattle, where they gave an amazing hometown show on the 22nd. Beat Connection knows how to put on a party and have a great stage presence (not one of those bands that disappoints live!). Their lightshow is vibrant and the energy is high. This is probably your last chance to see them in 2016 as they are starting recording a new album that will take them into 2017. I hope to see everybody dancing at Doug Fir this weekend!
