Pond @ The Doug Fir Lounge 10/29

Written by on October 27, 2014

Pond is best described as Perth’s (Australia) super group. The group consists 2 of the 4 members of Tame Impala: Jay Watson (Drums/Keyboards), Nick Allbrook (original bass player), and now Cam Avery (Allbrook’s replacement for bass). When it’s offseason for them, and Tame Impala is not touring/Kevin Parker is writing more tunes, these group of fella’s get together and create a side project that involves more of a collective agenda: Pond. Along with Joseph Ryan (Mind Mussel Creek), Watson, Allbrook, and Avery come together to twist your mind with some less-pop, but more psychedelic space rock.

I was first introduced to Pond back in 2012 when they released Beard, Wives, Denim, a raw, synthy, psychedelic album with groovy bass lines and down tempo breakdowns. They followed up this album with Hobo Rocket in 2013. With the same psychedelic feel, this album carried more space tones with slower rhythms, but just as jam-rock.

With a new album coming this January entitled Man, It Feels Like Space Again, Pond is back on the road promoting their new work. Having a recent appearance in Mexico, and a quick U.S Tour in progress, this may be your last opportunity to catch fellow psychedelic rockers before they hit an international tour with Tame Impala.

So if you want to see some kindred, Australian psychedelic rock, Wednesday night at the Doug Fir Lounge is the place to be.
