RIYL: Tame Impala, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Temples, Melody’s Echo Chamber

If you need a bit of color in these rainy Portland spring days, you’re in luck. Supporting their soon to be released album, Pond are making an appearance at the Doug Fir this thursday. The Weather is due on May 5th but their show gives fans a sneak peak. Fresh off two Coachella sets and a gig with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard in Vegas, their jangly guitars and immersive imagery will provide quite a show. They’ve shared a few new tracks from the record such as the title track, “Sweep Me Off My Feet” and the brand new “Paint Me Silver”.

The Perth band promises a good time. They’re known for their extended jams and unorthodox energy. Much like many of the other bands from the same scene, they’ve been friends for ages and love to share the communal spirit. Opener Kirin J Callinan is a familiar name to those who have been in their scene for a while. He’s opened for Mac Demarco and played many of the same festivals as our Australian heroes. Initially formed as an outlet for their group of friends to all play music together, the success of the collaborative project has taken them through multiple albums, tours and lineups. The current version features founding members Nicholas Allbrook, Jay Watson and Joe Ryan, plus newer personnel Jamie Terry and James Ireland. Get ready for an unpredictable and unforgettable night and check out The Weather on May 5th.
