KPSU's New Shows
Written by Pete Banjo on August 14, 2014
Normally summer at a college radio station is kind of a down time: a fair number of shows go on hiatus as the DJ's leave campus. And that happens here at KPSU, too. But we also have brought in some amazing new talent, and this crop of new DJ's is already kicking out the jams for summer and beyond:
Pure Tones – DJ Anamile
"A Pure Tone is a sine wave with a single frequency. Multiple pure tones make up complex waves with additional frequencies. I enjoy listening to psychedelic tunes, low-fi, dance-pop, indie rock and pop, shoe gaze, and much more! I’ll play artists and bands such as, The Strokes, Tame Impala, Blonde Redhead, Elliott Smith all the way to Flume. My ear is open to a wide spectrum of lovely music! Be sure to tune in on Mondays at noon!"
Circles of Sound – DJ Skittish
"DJ Skittish brings the Circles of Sound show to the masses each Monday night at 8pm. Circles of Sound will feature a different theme each week and will highlight a mix of classic and modern rock, power-pop, indie/alternative, alt-country, freak-folk, roots and dancehall reggae, conscious hip-hop and more"
Viking Twang – DJ Randy Black
"features bluegrass, old-time, classic country, western swing, cowboy songs, hobum, rockabilly and jump blues. From the early days of recorded music to the new young bluegrass bands: big stars, obscure oldies and lots of local bands"
The Local and The Loved – DJ Melissa
A "showcase of local music from Portland and the broader Pacific Northwest. Featuring multiple genres, and often highlighting upcoming shows, festivals, and events"
KPSU's Shows of The Week – DJ Too Real
OK, so this is not a new show, but the torch has been passed from DJ Keegan to DJ Too Real: still showcasing only bands that are playing shows in Portland that very week. Now on Tuesdays at 7pm.
SET in Motion – DJ Nock
"SET (Student Entrepreneur’s Toolbox) In Motion is a show focused on student entrepreneurs and startups in Portland and the NW region. Each week, we invite successful entrepreneurs from around the region to discuss hot topics and tools available to aspiring entrepreneurs. Listeners can ask questions and gain insights to valuable information that will aid them to set their project or concept in motion"
Readaround – DJ Simon Del Valle
"featuring rotating guest talent involving spoken word, poetry, and performance"
Young and Humble Radio – DJ Rockwell
"Motivation via music to get you to a degree, job, or simply through the day. Hip hop from 93 'til infinity and beyond. Trap to gutta, Rockwell's got it."
Found Sounds – DJ Blake
"KPSU's spotlight on live shows recorded here in PDX, live shows broadcast live from throughout Stumptown, live shows recorded in Bridgetown and rebroadcast for your enjoyment and edification, local music of every variety, and other found sounds that fascinate and inspire us."
In addition, our Programming Director Pete Banjo has put in place a few very genre-specific shows to round out our weekly broadcasts of tunes:
… and hopefully within the week, a new showcase of 'best of' shows form KPSU's past will be showing up on our weekly schedule, tentatively titled: 'From The Vaults'
