Jacco Gardner: Monday, May 12th @ Mississippi Studios
Written by BackyardMango on May 11, 2014
On Monday, May 12, Mississippi Studios will host one of Netherlands’ young and rising acts: Jacco Gardner.
With Syd Barrett’s fundamentals of psychedelia and innovation, Jacco pushes further with baroque-pop orchestration that includes harpsichords, flutes, and strings that give the music a rich, enchanting, fairytale feel.
Jacco has one full record out, entitled “Cabinet of Curiosities”, which was released February of 2013. Key tracks, such as “Clear The Air”, “Watching The Moon”, “Cabinet Of Curiosities”, and “The Ballad Of Little Jane”, really capture the unique, carousel psychedelia sound his music projects. To be specific, “The Ballad Of Little Jane”, and “Cabinet Of Curiosities”, instantly remind me of Television Personalities’, “I know where Syd Barret lives”. With background laughter’s, corky harpsichords, and storytelling lyrics, it is easy to relate Jacco’s music to 60’s nugget classics. Perhaps it is not as jam-esque as Pink Floyd’s, “The Piper at the Gates Of Dawn”, but fuzzy guitar tones and out of the blue sounds are definitely there.
So come out and catch Jacco Gardner while he finishes up a rare West Coast tour, for who knows when he’ll be back in the states!
Also, in preparation to his show at Mississippi on Monday, tune in Sunday, May 11th at 7pm here on kpsu.org, as we dedicate an entire hour to Jacco Gardner and his style of music.
