Geographer w/ Idlehands May 6th
Written by Michael T Fox on April 20, 2015
Smooth, catchy, electro pop are some of the words you could use to describe Geographer. A singer with a great falsetto and a songwriter with great hooks. This is a combination that is always appealing and lucky for you, you can catch Geographer at the Doug Fir on May 6th.
Geographer is currently touring in support of their new album Ghost Modern, and the sound is a step in a slightly different direction from previous recordings. While prior recordings were great at some point you have to evolve because the simplistic style that made those albums great can carry you only so far. The new album is that step up in instrumentation and arrangement. Ghost Modern still has that sound you love about Geographer but just sounds more mature, full and polished. You can go ahead and pencil the album in your top 5 or 10 albums of the years so far.
One thing to note about seeing Geographer live, is that the comes out much bigger in person. It swallows you up and travels through your body forcing you to gyrate in ways never thought possible. Suddenly a head bobbing crowd of Portlanders can’t help but get down and shake it move a little more than usual. Geographer is definitely worth more than the paltry $12 they are charging at such a small and intimate venue like the Doug Fir. With Hypnotic beats, catchy melodies and soul piercing vocals Geographer is going to rock the stage and is a can’t miss show.
