Coal Mines and the Dust Bowl on next week's Viking Twang!
Written by Randy Black on August 20, 2014
Hey friends – Thanks to all of you who listened to the Tuesday, Aug. 19 edition of Viking Twang. We had some fun with some cowboy music and a whole set of 1920s string bands: Riley Puckett, Uncle Dave, Gid Tanner and Charlie Poole, among others. Plus a bit of Jimmy Martin and Dolly Parton for the bluegrassers, along with Lefty Frizzell and Portland’s own Caleb Klauder for the country fans.
You can still listen to the show anytime you want at kpsu.org. Go to the schedule page and click on the Viking Twang logo at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
I have a Labor Day-themed show coming up on Tuesday, Aug. 26. We’ll go to the Dust Bowl with Woody Guthrie and Merle Haggard, the coal mines with Hazel Dickens, and a new song by Tim O’Brien and Darrell Scott. Plus Jimmy Martin running for president, Vanport flooding and Utah Phillips being a bum.
The week after that I’ll play all bluegrass. I promise!
I’m happy to say that Viking Twang is now on Twitter at @vikingtwang, along with our email at vik[email protected]. Facebook to come. I’d love to hear from you!
