Cd Review- Black Black Black
Written by Rocket Queen on February 5, 2014
The band Black black black, not to be confused with Black black……because it’s one blacker released their self-titled album in 2013 and it is a pretty good freshman release. The band is reminiscent of Red Fang, Fu Manchu, and Black Sabbath, solid stoner metal.
The 4 piece band hails from New York and are part of Aqualamb records.
The first track “Seance for a sucker” reminds me juuuust a bit of the intro to “Shout at the Devil.” It’s less creepy and i could personally do without it. The second track “Pentagram on” would be a KICK ass first track to really get the listener dancing. It’s my personal favorite track off the album, the pacing and vocals on this track remind me of Clutch just a bit. “Light, light, light” has a very mellow, late Soundgarden sounding intro but then kicks into rock gear only to wash back towards Alice in Chains style vocal highlighting. The 6th track “Night moves” is NOT a Bob Seger cover so don’t get all excited for a little metal Seger. “Soar like a spider” is a short and sweet Ren Fang esque tune that’ll make you tap your foot.
All in all Black black black is a pretty good example of the current stoner metal scene in America.
Treat yourself to “Pentagram On”
