Viking Twang Show 111, December 14, 2016
Good morning, welcome to Viking Twang Episode 110. My name’s Randy Black; happy to be back after a couple of weeks off to survive finals.

Today’s the day that grades get posted, so I have a show that will help you either celebrate or drown your sorrows. We’re going to devote the morning to songs about drinking, and its perils, starting off with our friends from Eugene, the Conjugal Visitors.

1 – Turkey Red; W.C. Beck & the Portland Country Underground.
2 – Heaven; Conjugal Visitors. The Eugene hippie-party band, from their 2008 album, The Gang’s All Here.
3 – Corn Kingdom Come; Danny Barnes. A performance by the former leader of the Bad Livers, at Pickathon 2004, its last year at Horning’s Hideout.
4 – Honky Tonk Habit; The Wilders. The great Kansas City band, from their 2005 debut album Throw Down; this was a live performance at KEXP in Seattle.
5 – Another Song, Another Drink; Jackstraw. From their 2005 Live at the White Eagle album, a song first recorded by Dr. Ralph Stanley with Ricky Skaggs and Keith Whitley.
6 – Whiskey Farmer; James Low. Our local favorite James Low, from his 2004 album, Live at Mississippi Studios, with Paul Brainerd joining him.

We’re going to continue the theme with what Los Lobos thinks you might have done after that last final, only, of course, if you’re 21.

7 – I Got Loaded; Los Lobos. The phenomenal Los Angeles band, from their classic 1984 debut, How Will The Wolf Survive.
8 – Want To Get Drunk and Fall Down; Lewi Longmire. Lewi and Caleb Miles, from Caleb’s final show before leaving Portland to settle in Nova Scotia in 2005.
9 – Killed George Dickel; Cow Paddy Stompers. A local band that included my friend David Knaus; the first song I ever wrote and the only one recorded by another band, on their 2009 album, Turn the Fields Green.
10 – The Old Bar; Deadwood Revival. The Port Angeles married couple; from their 2006 album, This Old World.

We’ll head into the final set with some more of our local favorites, starting with the Countrypolitans.

11 – Tired of Drowning; the Countrypolitans. Elisabeth Ames led this Portland band; the title track from their 1999 album.
12 – Drunk; Little Sue; from her 2004 album, Shine.
13– The Last Time I Said No; Freak Mountain Ramblers. Alexander Browning wrote and sang this song about the late Jeffrey Frederick on their 2008 album, Flxible.
14 – Bury the Bottle With Me; Robbie Fulks. Robbie’s cover of the 1968 Dick Curless song; from Robbie’s 2001 album of lost country gems, 13 Hillbilly Giants.
15 – Daybreak in Vegas; Our theme song from the Countrypolitans.
