KPSU & NW Film Center Present: TOP DOWN

KPSU - Portland's college radio and NW Film Center team up to bring music to the TOP DOWN film series. TOP DOWN is set atop the Hotel deLuxe's parking structure (SW 15th at Yamhill) and happens every Thursday evening July 24th through August 28th. Music starts promptly at 8pm followed by each evening's film at dusk.

JULY 24 - LOVE MENU with film BIG TIME
In a city busting at the seams with creativity, Emily Katz has managed to succeed in multiple realms. In addition to singing the delicious renaissance folk pop of Love Menu, Katz also designs clothes. Love Menu's eight track EP Limerance, recorded live at Calvin Johnson's Dub Narcotic studio in Olympia, is one of the most beautiful releases of the year.

JULY 31 - THE RAINY STATES with film HOT RODS TO HELL
Hot on the heels of their self recorded, self released debut album In Basement Air earlier this year, The Rainy States are piling up acclaim as their audience grows. Fronted by "vocal powerhouse" Betsy Johnson, the band has a solid foundation in the classics, and a fresh tightness live. Their recordings have been played on OPB Radio and the BBC.

AUGUST 7 - ESKIMO & SONS with film FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR
From having, at most, three songs for their debut performance to being one of the most buzzed about bands in Portland, Eskimo & Sons have achieved a rapid ascent into a certain echelon of respected Portland bands. Part of the band's appeal is their transcendent live show, which has packed basements and backyards across Portland, as well as venues. Eskimo & Sons releases so far, an EP and 7" have, in some cases, sold out or come near, for the label collective Boy Gorilla, also home to Typhoon.

AUGUST 14 - HIGHWAY with film THUNDER ROAD
Highway is songwriter Rob Bonds joined by an all star ensemble consisting of Paulie Pulvirenti (Elliott Smith) on drums, Nathan "Jr" Anderson (Mike Coykendall) on guitar and organ, Peter Holmstrom (Dandy Warhols) on bass, and William Slater (Grails) on piano and guitar. Highway's sound is reminiscent of pop classics in the vein of mid-70s era Dylan or The Band.

AUGUST 21 - NEWSPAPERS with film BIG WILLIE DYNAMITE
Newspapers just released their second EP Eagle & The Snake a release that sees the group shifting their songwriting towards blue eyed soul. Amongst the hardest working bands in town, Newspapers know how to have a good time too(it's their pleasure, but it's their job too) an ability they transfer to their audience at shows.
