Moulin Rouge is and will continue to be one of my favorite movies of all time. I first watched it in the fourth grade. I would come home after school most days and watch it on my tiny portable DVD player. The cast is perfect. Nicole Kidman plays Satine very well. She has the perfect looks for it and a fitting voice for the role. This was the first movie I had seen Ewan McGregor in. As great of an actor he is, one of my favorites actually, I would be completely fine for him to quit to start of a musical career. His voice is something incredible. His singing is better than any male singer with a CD, and yes, that includes the young Justin Bieber. Baz Luhrmann directed this film, which gives me the incentive to watch all of his films, although none of them have compared to Moulin Rouge. Like several other of his films, this movie starts off with a very light and humorous mood. It’s quite silly, in fact. The mood gradually gets darker and darker throughout the film ending on a very depressing note, although I wont give anything away. This film has a beautiful story but what really stands out is the visuals. This movie is extremely aesthetically pleasing and the cinematography is stunning. It was even nominated eleven times for Best Cinematography and won four of those awards. The music is wonderful as well, which is a must have since it is a musical. “El Tango De Roxanne” which is mostly sung by Ewan McGregor along with Jose Feliciano and Jacek Koman, is my favorite song from the movie. I still listen to it over and over again on my ipod. It is such a deep and rich song with beautiful lyrics. Some other of my favorite songs from Moulin Rouge include: “Hindi Sad Diamonds” and “Elephant Love Medley”.
