Sudamerican Rockers

  • Thursday 5-6pm
Genre:
Eclectic Latin American Music

Rock, rap, hip-hop, punk, ska, indie and more genres mostly in Spanish and some Portuguese spanning from the Straight of Magellan to the Rio Grande and across the Atlantic to the Iberian Peninsula. On the air since 2003, Sudamerican Rockers is KPSU's first and only Ñ Alternative program. La misión: play contemporary Latin American music that is not commonly heard on US radio stations and programs, alternative from all the crappy imported pop. Mostly stuff from South America since it is less known... and because DJ Pedro is from there. Musica en español y portugues en la emisora de la Universidad Estatal de Portland KPSU. Acompañen al DJ Pedro--el Roquero Sudamericano--a escuchar la musica del sur.

Sudamerican Rockers came to light in the Summer of 2003 by the efforts of Alejandro "Chico Viagra" Alvarez and Petter Dahlgren. After a transfer of schools for Alex, Rafael "Rafaza" Zambrano--otro Trujillano--became the new co-host accompanying Petter in the KPSU booth bringing along with him an arsenal of independent Peruvian bands and a taste of Rock Clasico sudamericano to replace Alex's cheesy romantic music. Spending a term traveling around Chile and Argentina, Petter left Rafaza in charge of Sudamerican Rockers until his return and Rafaza later called it quits in Spring 2005. Petter--DJ Pedro--has been the Sudamerican Rocker flying solo since then with occasional guests that stop by from PSU's Latin American community and those interested in the sort.
