In the world of PsyDub -which I have always thought to be an extremely stupid name- there has been one real artist. Ott. Others have tried to emulate and bank off of Ott, but there is only one Ott. Shpongle has become quite famous and a lot of people look to Shpongle as "PsyDub," but Shpongle is not Ott. Sorry Shpongle. Ott kicks your ass.
But now I have found Nagual Sound Experiment. Nagual Sound Experiment is not Ott, but I do feel that the title PsyDub is more representative to NSE than to any other previous artist who may have tried to compose within this genre. It is even more dub-esque than Ott himself.
Combining elements of reggae, traditional dub, trip hop and the more downtempo oriented psychedelic trance music, Nagual Sound Experiment has created a drippingly tasty treat of original music which sounds fresh, unique and interesting. The opening track is a little jarring. It quickly jumps into some vocals, which upon my first listen, was a bit rough. I wanted it to ease into that realm. But by track 3, I was ready for it all. I allowed myself to get absorbed into the layers of sounds, depths of voices and richness of the words which were being transmitted.
Some tracks are instrumental. Some are layered with light hiphop verses couple with samples from various sources. Other tracks have more traditional reggae verses and textures. Bringing all of these ideas together on a single album has been done before, but never so effectively or naturally. Nagual Sound Experiment have created a proper PsyDub album which actually holds true to its name. If you have heard of this genre term before and have been disappointed or if you like reggae/dub/dancehall and are looking for something new, this might be the album for you.
Roll up a joint and turn it up.
The liberation and revolution are upon us now.

combination of reggae and dancehall is, without any doubt, great. adding of trip hop is also good. but most of all i like instrumental ;)
oops
Shpongle is indeed not Ott, but Ott is a good friend of Simon Posford, who founded both Shpongle and Hallucinogen, which Ott remixed. Ott also participated on the "Nothing Lasts" album by Shpongle.
So there is really no competition, nor has Shpongle ever tried to be like Ott. I see them more as complementary :)
