Cold Metal Lonely Girls [Excerpt] The Loveless Darklands Black Circle Records

When you are constantly surrounded by artists and musicians (sort of the like the situation that we suffer from here in Portland), it is easy to grow weary of the offerings that inevitably pop up. That's why I was extremely excited to finally get Cold Metal into the studio, who not only wanted to do a Live Performance, but were debuting two new songs, and offered a one hour DJ set for their fans. This was an excellent opportunity to get into the heads of a trio of amazing local artists, and preview their new EP, The Loveless Darklands. Not bad for a rainy Saturday afternoon in January.

Cold Metal have been playing around for a while now, and after working with the legendary Mike Lastra for their EP, are looking to spend the majority of 2010 working on a new record, a new video, and planning the rest of their future lives. But, since that's neither here nor now, they were more than happy to pull themselves out of bed on a Saturday morning, raid their record collections, and present a fantastic set of early '90's D.C. rock, unusual old-school composers, and just a taste of the '80's to set the mood right. Then, they quickly ran over to belt out two live sets, broken up by a short interview (and selections from their EP). It's everything you want from a band in just under two hours. I couldn't have planned it better myself.

In two weeks: legendary Experiementalists the Dead Air Fresheners will be dropping by for a live In-Studio, so you won't want to miss that. So much live music... what shall I do?

See ya in seven.
