We at Blasphuphmus Radio take the idea of Audience Participation very seriously, so for today's two-hour extravaganza, we've got two distinct hours of music for you to enjoy, all in one long musical presentation. DJ Sackbut - all the way from Orange County - brings us a full set of UK Electric Folk in hour two, but before that, a bewildered and befuddled fan calls up, and wanders in to play some songs off his iPod. (No, really.) It's just one example of the lengths we will go to in order to please the listeners, and bring you the radio you need and deserve. Honest.

Along with selections chosen by our confused fan in the first hour, I also attempt to foreground some music that I haven't had a chance to get to the rest of the year, most notably a track from the new Flaming Lips album, Embryonic, which to me is their attempt at a total reinvention, the way Kid A was for Radiohead. I also managed to fit in a fantastic Melvins cover, and more of that amazing Opal record I discovered, and of course, there's always room for Unwound. (Mmmmmm. Unwound.) I was attempting to put a bit of a Spiritual Quest Theme in at the beginning, but how much of that is in there, or how well it could have been achieved in the first place, is anyone's guest.

During the second hour, DJ Sackbut provided all the selections, focusing on the UK Electric Folk Movement in the late '60's and '70's. I won't bore you with my inept summary version of what that is, as Sackbut does a great job of doing so on-air. (And, you're all savvy enough listeners that you are probably all well versed in the genre already, right?) I will say that it was really cool to get exposed to music that I was almost entirely unfamiliar with, and Sackbut did a good job of turning me on to some new tunes in a big way. Thanks man!

It should be noted that DJ Sackbut and I go way back, as we started working together almost 10 years ago when we were both Corporate Book Monkeys. While he has since moved back to the OC, we stay in touch via the Inter-Web-A-Tron, and aside from the myriad of other related interests we both talk about, one connection we've always had is our mutual love of music. Unfortunately, because we hadn't seen each other in over a year, our personal conversations got in the way of prepping the next song on more than one occasion. Still, when all is said and done, the show sounds pretty great, and I was really happy to share this one with an old friend.

Next week, tune in for another two-hour show of a yet-to-be-determined theme. It's all part of the fly-by-night nature of KPSU, and by extension, Blasphuphmus Radio.

See ya in seven.
