The Penultimate Halloween show this year was dedicated to what is often seen as the typical Musical Fare this time of year: corny, cheeseball songs that you all know and love. Again, I chose to retrocast an episode from 2006, this one from October 25th. A lot of the stuff that is musically associated with Halloween shows up in this one: The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tales From The Crypt, Ghostbusters, etc., but here and there are some specialty-cheese songs that might not immediately show up on your radar. While I can't make any promises, if your kids were going to like one of my shows, this one would be it.
This one actually works as a pair with a show I played during the 11 AM hour today, which also featured the other songs that did not fit into this hour: Ozzy Osbourne, Ministry, Bauhaus, Nerf Herder, etc. While I cannot promise that every selection is 100% cheese in either of these shows, I can promise that they relate to the time of year, and more importantly, sound great on your stereo system when it is time to get the pre-party started. (Playlists for the original broadcasts of these two shows can be found at: http://kpsu.org/node/2113 [1 PM] and http://kpsu.org/node/1944 [11 AM])
This episode actually featured my one and only Halloween co-host, the name of which has been lost to the ages! She was a KPSU volunteer in 2006, who was beginning to go through the training to become an on-air DJ. She even continued to DJ during the hour AFTER this, playing more Halloween music of her own choosing. (Sadly, I do not have a copy of that.) If anyone remembers her name, or knows who she is, let me know so I can credit her properly. I haven't seen her more than twice since this show was broadcast, and age combined with booze and memory loss have sandpapered away any cells that retained the information relating to who she was. So it goes.
While you would think that I've pretty much exhausted the possibilities concerning these timely selections, fear not! Next week, on the actual day itself, I will be hosting a special two-hour show entitled Soul-A-Ween! Halloween Soul Hits that have not appeared on any of my shows in the past! This will be a fantastic show, and a perfect way to kick-start any celebration you might be planning that evening. Tune in at noon for the full story.
See ya in seven.
