Krishna Das Flow of Grace

I had the pleasure of seeing Krishna Das live recently, this week in fact, and he is a brilliant performer. Attending a concert is like being invited inside one of his CDs, the sound surrounds you in a magical way. Not that you get to the concert and you don’t recognize the songs and wonder how many outtakes there were in making the CD you bought. Krishna Das’ voice is rich and soulful and he delivers his music in a sincere way. In person I was also very intrigued by the performance of his tabla players – what an incredible skill. There is a sweetest to this album which listeners can understand with more depth by reading the insert that accompanies the CD, this work is dedicated to Krishna Das’ gurudeva and it brings back some wonderful memories of his association. I love the complexity of this work and how long it must have taken to get everything together; to me, it is no coincidence that a work that took so much devotion would be in praise of Hanuman (Rama’s greatest devotee). My only wish is that the bonus CD had a word for word translation, which from my experience of memorizing Hindi/Sanskrit verses is very helpful and strengthens one’s understanding.
