Written by DJ Mkulima (The Farmer) on May 24, 2016
What The Festival will throw it’s 5th annual electronic-music festival June 17-19 taking place at Wolf Run Ranch in the heart Mt. Hood National Forest 2 hours East of Portland! WTF is a truly multi-dimensional immersive music and arts festival featuring the cream of local PNW talent alongside some of the world’s biggest names, interactive artistic expression, a late night film festival, movement classes, casual “speak easy” philosophy sessions and so much more! WTF takes immense pride in curating an open, friendly immersive festival experience, “WTF is summer camp for adults.”
As What The Festival continues to grow so does the breadth of activities available to the community; WTF 2016 boasts eight stages each with a unique immersive vibe and mostly non-overlapping acts. Start the morning off with a movement workshop, head to the luxurious Oasis Spa or hang out in the beautiful forested campgrounds. Each afternoon the splash stage brings the beach to the forest. Soak up the rays, feel the sand between your toes and dance to some of the hottest acts with friends and family both new and old. The WTF and ‘Effin stages provide the biggest light shows with the largest sound systems on the ranch providing space for the largest dance gatherings. For the late night head into The Illuminated Forest for interactive art experiences, get lit at the (fire breathing) Dragon Stage, chill out at the down-tempo Shinto-a-go-go lounge or head over to the Silent Disco to dance in silence with 500+ friends. One new stage concept for this year is “The Groove Qube.” Details about new stages and many other exciting surprises are rolling out nearly every day at WTF’s website and FaceBook, cruise on over to read all about the new experiences to be had!
2016’s lineup boasts headliners Thievery Corporation (Live), Bonobo (DJ set), Claude Von Stroke (late night), Lettuce, FKJ, Jai Wolf and others both locally and internationally acclaimed. West Coasters have the unique opportunity to enjoy arguably the best electronic-music scene in North America and with that comes quality local talent. What The Festival is a container for growth and a chance to explore locally curated music, art and ideas all while making new friends and family.

With less than a month away from WTF, KPSU’s Learning to Grow with DJ Mkulima (The Farmer) will be highlighting local Portland artist/dj/producer interviews and music with Gangsigns, The Doki Doki Productions crew (BennyRox, Pacific Patterns, Wolfkin) with Doki Doki resident support, HÄANA, internationally acclaimed artist/violinist/bass producer, will be on June 8th and The Perfect Cyn Wednesday night June 15 right before the Thursday Early Entry Party. Be sure to tune-in 9-10pm every Wednesday night to warm up those ears for what is slated to be the biggest WTF to date! One locally curated favorite to get hyped up for is the “Grilled Cheese Disco” put on by Savory Events to welcome the Sunday morning sunrise at The Cosmic Playground!
WTF began when Portland area music champion Peter Clark joined forces with long time Burners Tiffany and Glen Boyd. Motivated by passion and love for community achievable only in a festival container, What The Founders started their artistic vision which has since turned into an internationally recognized boutique festival experience and a PNW favorite! WTF has and will continue to live up to the description of “transformational,” revitalizing the hearts and souls of the community it builds each and every year.
KPSU had the pleasure of hosting What The Founders Tiffany, Peter, and Glen back in March for an interview and lineup preview mix on Learning to Grow. Check out the podcast to hear all about WTF beginnings, how WTF has grown, a lineup sampler selected by the curators and all about the values/visions of the lovely people who bring Wolf Run Ranch to life for the whole festival community to “find their pack!”
