Yarn and Cody Ray Raymond at McMenamins White Eagle

Written by on November 17, 2016

Last Thursday I went to see one of my very favorite players, Cody Ray Raymond, open for the Bluegrass band “Yarn” at the White Eagle in NE.

Cody has a R&B vocal style that well, nearly defies description. Bluesy, soulful, gutsy, never ‘pitchy’ with more feeling than a Chicago Cubs fan at Game Seven! You really have got to see him live, but I’ll provide you with some links here to give you a taste. I hope to have Cody on the show soon, so stay tuned!

Cody started the set with my personal favorite “Cadence” an upbeat, downhearted song of love lost, gained and lost again. Classic R&B with sweet yet searing guitar provided by Cody himself. Here’s the Soundcloud Live recording of Cadence…

After Cody came Yarn and did they SMOKE! I love Bluegrass, and had not heard of Yarn before. (This is one advantage of following Cody…he hangs with some other great musicians and you get turned on to a lot of fine music!). They had more guest players than you can shake a stick at, including a female fiddle player that brought the house down! If you get a chance to see them, don’t miss it!

All in all, a great night of music and foot stomping fun.

The fine Acoustic Fingerstyle guitarist Amber Russell was in the crowd. (she’s been a featured In-Studio guest on Acoustic Only, and here’s the link to that interview with lots of great playing) http://www.kpsu.org/acousticonly/amber-russell-live-studio
