Deap Vally and Wolfmother March 30th at the Wonder Ballroom

Written by on March 29, 2016

On Wednesday my new favorite band in all the and plays the Wonder Ballroom. Deap Vally is a two piece rock band from Los Angeles. The group consists of Lindsey Troy (guitar, vocals) and Julie Edwards (drums and vocals). Edwards was formally of the group Pity Party. The duo met at a crochet class in LA that Edwards was teaching. They have been steady rockin’ together since 2011.

In 2013 Deap Vally put out their only full length album so far- Sistrionix. It fucking rocks. These ladies know how to wail. They sound much bigger than a 2 piece. 14 tracks of pure feminine fury. Being the anti-slut shaming woman that I am, I love ‘Walk of Shame’ best. But there literally isn’t a song on the album that I don’t like. They get compared to the White Stripes a lot, and while it’s easy to compare the two two piece bands, Deap Vally is MUCH more intense and the vocals are a sweet salve for the tortured soul.

Walk of Shame

Not only did they put out a great album, but their onstage garb is fabulous. Star spangled spandex with fringe anyone?!

Wolfmother is an Australian rock band from Sydney. This is their sixteenth year together! They are touring this year to support their fourth full length album ‘Victorious.’ It’s a tour they’ve titled the ‘Gypsy Caravan Tour.’ The Portland show on Wednesday is almost their last stop for the tour!

The preview show I did last week is up! Listen here for more from these bands and others!
