For Generation Y job seeking is certainly nothing like their parent’s days. Today the need for internet savvy as well as networking skills is more imperative than ever. For Generation Y to stay competitive in an ever tightening race they must become more innovative and creative when hunting for available positions. Generation Y has to play a much more closely managed game of cat and mouse in order to secure their future employment.

Like any form of communication, language is a way of sharing ideas and creating common beliefs. In advertising, language or “Lingo” serves as an enticement for the consumer to act or behave in a certain way. Lingo bridges the gap between the company selling the product or service and the consumer. Traditionally it was important to use lingo as a manipulative tool, to either deceive or mislead the consumer, but this idea is quickly changing.
As it is November 4th, the day of reckoning for many, I would like to discuss the all too prevalent issue of politics and Generation Y. Like every generation preceding them, Generation Y has their own brand or variety of politics. But unlike generations past, Gen Y approaches politics in a much more dynamic way. Instead of seeing politics as something to avoid, Gen Y approaches the subject with relative fervor and as a means for creating purpose. Generation Yers associate very heavily with their political beliefs and as a result are more politically active than their parents and grandparents.

Well, I could only hope for it. On Sunday, November 26th from 6-7 PM, PDX Gen-Y will be hosting Tres, owner of Voodoo Donuts. We will be discussing many of the interesting aspects of being Voodoo Donuts in Portland Oregon. Essentially how awesome it is to be known as the "Magic in the Hole" king. Tune in for the fun.
